The practical research stage of the Re-migrant Project is now complete. I would like to thank all of those who got in touch and expressed an interest - the response surpassed my expectations, and I only regret that it was not possible to meet all those who contacted me. I would like to say a special thank you to those who gave up their time to participate in interviews - the project would not have been possible without your generous help.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh!

Dia Daoibh!

Welcome to the Irish-San Francisco Bay Area Re-migrant Project.

My name is Aimée Lyons and I am pursuing a Master's degree in the subject area of Migration and Diaspora Studies at University College Cork. As an Irish person who has herself lived abroad (Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Bermuda, and briefly in the U.S.) for many years, I am interested in the stories of those who like me, moved away from Ireland - and later returned. For my dissertation research, I would like to take this one step further, and look at the migration stories of Irish people who left Ireland to live in the United States, returned after a number of years to try living in Ireland again, and once again re-migrated from Ireland back to the U.S. I am particularly interested in people who lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, following either or both of their emigrations from Ireland. If you are such a person, I would be delighted to hear from you (either by email or via the contact form on this site).

I plan on spending the summer months of 2011 in the S.F. Bay Area and hope to be able to meet with people interested in participating in the research project in person during that period. I have also included a brief questionnaire and would greatly appreciate you taking a couple of minutes to fill it in. There are 15 short answer questions which should take no more than two minutes of your time to complete. You may do so anonymously if you wish. Please note that feedback or even completion of the questionnaire does not imply any commitment on your part to participating further in the research.

If you do not fit the description, but know somebody who might, I would be most grateful if you could pass the link to this site on to them - or indeed - to any other Irish friends or acquaintances!

Mise le meas,

Aimée Lyons
